Freight Company to be Sued for 18-Wheeler Accident

If you think 18-wheeler accidents happen only when these massive vehicles are moving, this story may shock you. Harris County resident Lisa Elbrechter was driving home at night in her car on the north freeway. An 18-wheeler, operated by trucking and freight firm Belo Tank Xpress was parked along the freeway. Since not any flares were used and not any flashing lights were turned on by the truck operator, Lisa rammed into the backside of the 18-wheeler causing severe injuries to her.

This again shows that 18-wheeler accidents can be dangerous even in their mildest form. Though the aforesaid accident took place in October 2010, the Elbrechter's could find time to sue the trucking company until this month of December 2010. The size of an 18-wheeler is so enormous that passenger cars do not stand a chance in a collision because of the law of physics. Whether the Elbrechter's manage to obtain compensation or not is another question. It needs to be noted here that 18-wheeler accidents are common and most of the time, trucking companies manage to win the lawsuits in absence of an effective 18-wheeler accident attorney.

Verdict Reached in Oklahoma Collision

It may take a while for justice to be served but when it does it is often fair. In June 2009, Donald Creed, 77, who is from Willard, MO., was driving a tractor-trailer when he slammed into 3 cars. This 18 wheeler accident was quite serious because it started a terrible chain reaction. When it was all said and done, 10 people were left dead. This just shows you how terrible an 18 wheeler accident can be.

Now, the evidence has been gathered and the shouting has subsided and the mudslinging has all but cast its course, for the most part, it is time for that company to pay for what its driver did. This 18 wheeler accident will cost them $62.7 million which was finally delivered in the Cleveland County courtroom. This financial tally was what the jurors decided to force the trucking company to pay.

(This verdict is not a verdict of our firm. We are merely blogging a verdict from Oklahoma that we thought was of interest.)

6 injured in an 18 wheeler accident

On Sunday, a big rig with explosive materials crashed on Interstate 35 in Temple, TX. It all occurred at 4:30 pm when the big rig heading northbound drove into the rear of another car and flipped into the median. Since the 18-wheeler contained lots of explosive materials, traffic was shut down from both directions for nearly two hours until all mangles and obstruction were cleared and the roadway was deemed safe. The injured required hospitalization, even though the injuries were minor.

The big rigs are too heavy and rash driving or small negligence of the driver can easily result in 18 wheeler accident. It is just as fortunate that this 18 wheeler accident turned to be a minor one. Can you imagine the extent of loss of life and property if this big rig had exploded? It would have resulted in billows of smoke and chaos possibly killing many passengers and drivers. Because of this, 18 wheeler accidents can be terribly lethal. If you need legal representation, we can help.
